Purposes:
Format:
Evaluation for each individual parent. Used to determine the level of anger, establish if one partner initiated separation or if it was a mutual decision, to gather information on logistics of each parents' living situation and what their parenting capabilities are, etc. A Parent Intake Questionnaire (PIQ) will be completed in this session.
Individual therapy sessions for each parent. Designed to come up with individual treatment goals to work on when joint sessions begin, to work through any anger and resentment prior to meeting jointly (# of sessions will vary from couple to couple). Joint sessions will begin only when both parties are ready to communicate effectively.
Con-Joint Sessions. Designed to establish agreed-upon goals, to come up with solutions to anticipated, hypothetical conflicts (using role-play when feasible), to work through current conflicts when both parties are emotionally stable enough to communicate effectively.
Family Sessions. Designed to include children or other family members who are affected by the divorce or separation who are in need of professional counseling. This will occur only when both parents have worked through the preceding phases effectively with minimal conflict and are both willing to include other family members who they mutually agree on being present. Each child will have an intake session so they can answer the Child Intake Questionnaire (QIT) prior to the first session.
Couples Group Sessions. An optional service to further help the customer by listening and sharing with other separated and divorced couples in the same situation that have also worked through the previous phases of the program. This group will be carefully selected and kept to a minimal number of couples. Some psycho-educational materials will be utilized as well as role-playing exercises and emotional processing. Only couples who clearly have the best interests of the children in mind and who are willing to together and not against the other parent will be admitted to this group.
